For immediate release 2 December 2000 Time to Net the Debt - OneWorld launches DebtChannel.org OneWorld has launched the global internet portal on international debt in partnership with over 70 leading aid agencies, human rights and campaign groups worldwide. DebtChannel.org (www.DebtChannel.org), goes live to coincide with the deadline of the Jubilee 2000 campaign calling for Third World debt to be cancelled by the end of the millennium. "We are at a point of renewal for the international movement," said Ann Pettifor Jubilee 2000 Co-founder and Director. "The launch of DebtChannel.org is a reflection of the growing worldwide support for the struggle against debt slavery." DebtChannel.org carries stories and information from around the world in the most comprehensive collection of material on debt on the entire web. The channel features include news, campaign actions, events listings, discussion forums, a beginnerıs guide to debt and the worldıs first dedicated search facility on debt issues. The site aims to be a single way-in to the issue and to bring together a global audience calling for world leaders to no longer fail the worldıs poor by not canceling the unpayable debts of the poorest countries of the world. Debt is undermining basic human rights and the ability of communities and countries to determine their own sustainable development. "DebtChannel.org uses the internet to help bring together global civil society to ensure that debt does not bring more human suffering and poverty," said Joe Chilaizya, DebtChannel.org editor.
