OneWorld wins New Statesman New Media Award

OneWorld wins New Statesman New Media Award

OneWorld (www.OneWorld.net), the organisation behind the worlds leading portal on global justice, has won a New Statesman New Media Award. OneWorld.net was named best Advocacy website, the award given to reward organisations that use new technologies to enhance open debate with the goal of changing the climate of opinion.

Mark Lynas, OneWorld.net Front Page Editor, received the award from Rt Hon Mo Mowlam MP, UK Government Minister for the Cabinet Office. Mark Lynas said: "Our advocacy mission at OneWorld is to harness the democratic potential of the internet to promote sustainable development and human rights. We are a global partnership network that brings over 700 organisations working for a better world together in one place, OneWorld.net. We are delighted to accept the award on behalf of this worldwide OneWorld network."

The New Statesman's New Media Awards are designed to "identify and reward innovative initiatives that contribute to and benefit public life using new technology". The New Statesman is Britains premier political magazine (http://www.newstatesman.co.uk) and is closely associated with the democratic modernisation of a civil society. Bill Thomson, moderator for the New Media Awards, said: "The Advocacy Award is for websites that change the world. OneWorld thoroughly deserves to win."

OneWorld Kids Channel (http://www.OneWorld.net/penguin) won a commendation in the Education Award category for the internet project that has made the most use of new media technologies with the objective of promoting life-long learning and education.
