Koulunsa aloittaa tänä vuonna Afganistanissa ennätysmäärä lapsia. Yli kuusi miljoonaa koululaista lähtee opintielle kouluvuoden käynnistyessä lauantaina 24. maaliskuuta. Määrä on kaksinkertainen viiden vuoden takaisiin lukuihin verrattuna.

Afganistanissa toimivissa kansalaisjärjestössä iloitaan, koska maan korkein oikeus on hyväksynyt uuden avioitumista koskevan sopimuksen. Sen odotetaan vähentävän alaikäisten naittamista ja pakkoavioliittojen määrää maassa. Afganistanissa virallinen naimisiinmenoikä tytöillä on 16 ja pojilla 18 vuotta.

La Camera ha approvato con 524 sì, 3 no e 19 astenuti il decreto legge che proroga per un anno le missioni militari italiane all'estero. Tra queste c’è anche quella in Afghanistan sulla quale numerose associazioni della società civile avevano chiesto al Governo di "adoperarsi per la fine delle operazioni militari e per il cessate il fuoco, condizioni perché si possa realizzare un processo di pace e riconciliazione nazionale, con tutte le parti interessate" e di "ritirare subito i militari italiani come passo per uscire dalla guerra". Le associazioni hanno partecipato oggi alla manifestazione in Campidoglio a Roma indetta dall’Associazione Stampa Romana a sostegno della richiesta di immediata liberazione del giornalista di Repubblica, Daniele Mastrogiacomo.

"Invitiamo i deputati e i senatori che hanno creduto alla lotta per la pace di essere conseguenti con le loro idee, votando no al rifinanziamento della missione in Afghanistan". E' il senso dell'appello sottoscritto da numerose personalità per sollecitare l'obiezione di coscienza tra i parlamentari alla vigilia del voto sulla missione militare a Kabul. L'appello ha già superato le 2 mila adesioni, tra le quali spiccano quelle di Dario Fo, padre Zanotelli, Vauro, Gianni Minà, Beppe Grillo, Moni Ovadia e la partigiana e deputata alla Costituente, Teresa Mattei. La Camera oggi ha rinviato a domani il voto finale sul decreto che finanzia la missione in Afghanistan. Per le missioni militari italiane all'estero si prevede una spesa di più di un miliardo di euro e per la missione in Afghanistan sono previsti 310 milioni di euro.
