Local authorities on Thursday appealed for emergency relief for thousands of families displaced by recent fighting and drought in the southern Afghan province of Helmand. Fierce fighting between government forces and the ousted Taliban militia, coupled with this year’s particularly hash drought, have forced nearly 4,000 families to leave their homes.

Stamattina il ministro russo alla Difesa Sergei Ivanov ha annunciato che il suo paese è favorevole a portare avanti sforzi diplomatici e politici per risolvere il problema del nucleare dell'Iran e che non ritiene opportuno ricorrere a sanzioni contro il paese in caso di mancato rispetto dell'ultimatum fissato al 31 agosto. Anche la Cina chiede tempo. L'Iran pare non voglia piegarsi alle richieste del Palazzo di Vetro, ma il suo portavoce per il nucleare si è detto pronto a "un dialogo serio". Intanto la popolazione teme seriamente le conseguenze economiche di eventuali sanzioni.
