Durante le ultime settimane sono aumentati gli scontri nel Ciad orientale tra il governo e i ribelli, che hanno costretto le agenzie dell'Onu e numerose Ong attive nella zona a ridurre le operazioni di aiuto ai 200 mila rifugiati del Darfur e ai 90 mila ciadiani sfollati che gremiscono i campi della regione. "Quest'ultima ondata di violenza rischia di avere un impatto devastante in una regione dove migliaia di persone, rifugiati e parte della popolazione residente, dipendono dall'assistenza umanitaria esterna" - afferma un comunicato di Medici senza Frontiere. Anche oggi nuovi combattimenti sarebbero avvenuti nell’estremo est del paese a ridosso della frontiera con il Sudan, dove da mesi sono attivi diversi gruppi ribelli che nei giorni scorsi hanno attaccato postazioni governative nella regione di Abeché e Biltine.
