05/25/2005 A Baku in Azerbaigian si è tenuta la cerimonia di apertura del tratto zero dell’oleodotto Baku-Tbilisi-Cheyan (Btc), che una volta completato sarà il più lungo al mondo. Il progetto da quattro miliardi di dollari è stato fortemente voluto dagli Stati Uniti, desiderosi di sfruttare il ricchissimo bacino petrolifero del Caspio. Altri due rapporti delle organizzazioni ambientaliste criticano l’insicurezza della pipeline verificata anche da un’indagine del parlamento inglese. Tra i finanziatori dell’oleodotto oltre a Banca Intesa, che sotto le pressioni ha deciso di ritirarsi dal progetto, rimane San Paolo Imi alla quale viene chiesta una scelta di responsabilità sociale. Intanto anche la Cina sul campo energetico sta vivendo un momento di carenza che porta a uno sfruttamento delle risorse idriche e minerarie con conseguenti problemi ambientali e sociali.

Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline
Environment and human rights groups slammed the Royal Bank of Scotland for providing a loan to the controversial Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, in spite of the bankÂ’s own environmental rules. Royal BankÂ’s role in the project will be confirmed with the signing of the pipeline financial package in Baku.
