Birmania: va bene il 'fiocco rosso', ma i nostri affari col regime?

09/29/2007 Le manifestazioni di questi giorni in Birmania e la dura repressione del regime - che ieri ha fatto nove morti tra dimostranti e reporter - ha posto all'attenzione dei media mondiali la situazione delle violazioni dei diritti umani ad opera del regime militare comandato dal generale Than Shwe. La giusta e necessaria solidarietà internazionale alla popolazione e ai dimostranti che oggi si è manifestata anche con il "fiocco rosso" da indossare e, in Italia, con sit-in a Roma e a Milano, non deve però far dimenticare che da vari anni diverse campagne denunciano le violazioni e chiedono di praticare il boicottaggio, di porre fine al turismo, all'importazione di materie e all'esportazione di armi, anche europee, verso la Birmania/Myanmar. La lista delle ditte è pubblica e ce ne sono molte di conosciute anche in Italia.

Giornata della pace: iniziative per il controllo degli armamenti

09/21/2007 Oggi 21 settembre è la "Giornata internazionale della Pace". Indetta dall'Assemblea Generale dell'Onu nel 2001, la giornata invita tutte le nazioni e tutti i popoli a favorire la risoluzione pacifica dei conflitti e a cessare le ostilità per tutta la giornata. In Svizzera una coalizione di 35 associazioni pacifiste ha presentato stamane al governo di Berna 109mila firme per chiedere una modifica della Costituzione federale per introdurre il "divieto di esportare materiale bellico" comprese le armi leggere. In Italia è prossima al via la campagna per la proposta di legge d'iniziativa popolare perché l'Italia si dichiari "Zona libera da armi nucleari". E la campagna Control Arms sta mettendo a punto gli ultimi dettagli per presentare in ottobre all'Assemblea Onu la sintesi della "Consultazione popolare" svolta in 50 nazioni a favore del "Trattato internazionale sul commercio di armi".

Ong: coordinare meglio la cooperazione europea allo sviluppo

09/20/2007 In occasione del meeting dei Ministri della Cooperazione allo sviluppo dell'Unione Europea che si apre oggi a Bruxelles, l'Associazione Ong italiane insieme a CONCORD (la rete delle Ong di sviluppo e emergenza europee) ha inviato alla Vice Ministra alla Cooperazione Patrizia Sentinelli una lettera per sollecitare l'intervento attivo del Governo italiano nella stesura degli emendamenti dei Trattati di riforma dell'Unione Europea che si trovano in fase di chiusura. Nella lettera viene sottolineata la necessità di "coerenza, compatibilità e coordinamento delle politiche dell'Europa, dalla cooperazione allo sviluppo al commercio, all'aiuto umanitario" e assicurare la collegialità per contribuire positivamente al raggiungimento degli Obiettivi del Millennio da parte dell'Ue.
