India currently produces 150,000 tons of e-waste a year but has been slow to regulate disposal with no proper guidelines and law. Delhi itself has 10,000 people who search for gold, copper, palladium, or anything else in the e-waste to reap profit from it even though it is a hazardous task.

The Green Revolution has been a useful response to food insecurity at a certain point in India's history. But the strategy cannot be a permanent one for a country like India. The fact is that intensive agriculture could happen only with high a level of irrigation, with diversity of ecology, rainfall and water table on which India is lacking.

Sono 7 milioni e 577 mila persone che in Italia vivono in condizioni di povertà: rappresentano il 13,1% della popolazione e fanno parte di 2 milioni 585 mila famiglie (l'11,1% del totale). E quanto emerge dal VII Rapporto della Caritas Italiana, che verrà pubblicato a ottobre, e di cui Caritas Italiana e Fondazione Zancan hanno fornito oggi alcune anticipazioni affinchè nella Finanziaria vengano poste in atto politiche organiche di lotta alla povertà. Il tasso di povertà non cala e poveri non sono solo tra i disoccupati e i migranti, ma sono anche diplomati, famiglie monoreddito con più figli, pensionati e specialmente tra le donne. Mons. Pasini ha ricordato che "l’Italia manca di un piano di lotta alla povertà: la storia del nostro Paese è come disseminata di ‘buone intenzioni' mai tradotte in un piano organico di lotta alla povertà".

La campagna "Acqua Pubblica, ci metto la firma!" ha consegnato ieri mattina al presidente della Camera, Fausto Bertinotti, oltre 400mila firme per una proposta di legge di iniziativa popolare che chiede la "ripubblicizzazione del serivizio idrico" e cioè che governo e gestione della risorsa idrica tornino ad essere interamente pubblici. In questi mesi di mobilitazione la campagna ha coinvolto circa 1000 comitati territoriali e 80 organizzazioni nazionali: "Un esempio di bella politica" - ha sottolineato Emilio Molinari del Forum Italiano dei Movimenti per l'Acqua. Il Forum chiede che la proposta di legge venga immediatamente calendarizzata e che nel frattempo anche il Senato, dopo la Camera approvi la moratoria su tutte le privatizzazioni in atto.

"Soddisfazione verso gli impegni economici espressi sull’Aiuto Pubblico allo Sviluppo ed sulla cooperazione internazionale". E' il giudizio degli Stati Generali della Solidarietà e della Cooperazione Internazionale dopo un’attenta analisi e valutazione del Documento di Programmazione Economica e Finanziaria (Dpef) presentato la scorsa settimana dal Governo italiano. "L’aiuto pubblico allo sviluppo è entrato a chiare lettere nel decreto, rispondendo alle sollecitazioni più volte fatte dal mondo della solidarietà e della cooperazione" - dichiara la coordinatrice degli Stati Generali, Raffaella Chiodo. Il Dpef detta infatti il progressivo innalzamento della percentuale del Pil destinata all’Aiuto pubblico allo sviluppo con l'intento di avvicinarsi il più possibile all'obiettivo dello 0,51%. Positivi i segnali anche rispetto alle questioni ambientali, "ma ancora non c’è una proposta organica".
