Dopo i violenti combattimenti dei giorni scorsi conclusisi con la vittoria dalle forze etiopi che sono riuscite ad entrare nei quartieri nord della città dove erano arroccate le milizie anti-governative sembra essere tornata la calma a Mogadiscio - riporta l'agenzia Misna. Dal febbraio scorso 340.000 civili sono fuggiti da Mogadiscio e durante la fuga i civili sono aggrediti da bande armate mentre a Mogadiscio i rischi sanitari sono molteplici. Nei giorni scorsi era stato colpito da un missile l’ospedale gestito dall’Ong austriaca SOS Kinderdorf sostenuto dall'Ong italiana Cesvi: fortunatamente tutti i bambini erano già stati fatti evacuare per motivi di sicurezza. Il Rappresentante dell’UNICEF in Somalia Christian Balslev-Olesen ha prontamente deplorato il bombardamento.

Irakilaisia ei tule tällä hetkellä palauttaa Irakiin, korostavat ihmisoikeusjärjestö Amnesty Internationalin Suomen osasto ja Pakolaisneuvonta ry. Järjestöjen kanta poikkeaa Ulkomaalaisviraston näkemyksestä. EU:n sisäministerit keskustelevat irakilaisten pakolaisten ja turvapaikanhakijoiden asemasta perjantaina 20.4.

UNITED NATIONS, April 18 (OneWorld) - Though satisfied with the Sudanese decision to allow United Nations forces into Darfur, international civil society groups engaged in humanitarian efforts in the violence-wracked region say they wonder if Khartoum will keep its promises of cooperation with the world body.

Pakistan on uhannut sulkea neljä Afganistanin rajan pinnassa sijaitsevaa pakolaisleiriä, joissa asuu yhteensä noin 330 000 pakolaista. Turvallisuuden puute on pääsyy siihen, mikseivät afganistanilaiset uskalla palata koteihinsa.
