At least 40 civilians have fallen prey to aerial bombings by US-led forces in Afghanistan in last two weeks alone. Aid agencies say more than 12,000 people have been killed since 2001. Anger among the people against NATO forces is mounting and they have begun to equate them with the Russians.

La Corte europea dei diritti dell’uomo ha bloccato l’espulsione di Nassin Saady, il tunisino che l’Italia aveva deciso di espellere perché sospettato di attività terroristica. Per la Corte, sono concreti i rischi di tortura e di trattamenti inumani che lo straniero potrebbe subire nel suo Paese. Amnesty International ha espresso apprezzamento per la storica sentenza emessa dalla Corte europea con la quale viene riaffermata la natura assoluta del divieto di tortura e altri trattamenti e pene inumani e degradanti. Le autorità italiane avevano cercato di espellere Nassim Saadi verso la Tunisia sulla base della “Legge Pisanu”, adottata nel 2005 come “misura urgente per combattere il terrorismo” ritenendo che la sua presenza in Italia costituisse un rischio per la sicurezza nazionale.
