08/27/2007 In occasione della visita in Cina della cancelliera tedesca Angela Merkel, l'Associazione per i Popoli Minacciati Internazionale (APM) ha chiesto alla cancelliera di affrontare apertamente la questione dei diritti umani nel paese asiatico e in particolare la tutela della cultura e religione tradizionale tibetana. La cancelliera tedesca, alla sua seconda visita a Pechino, ha sollecitato oggi la Cina a promuovere un'azione più efficace contro il cambiamento climatico, una maggiore protezione dei diritti di proprietà intellettuale e ha fatto presente che "le regole di fondo per l'approvvigionamento di risorse devono essere uguali per tutti e ovunque": un'implicita critica alle relazioni tra la Cina e il regime del Sudan. Al riguardo Amnesty International mostra oggi nuove prove fotografiche del dispiegamento di apparati militari, tra cui aerei di provenienza russa e cinese, nel Darfur e denuncia che il governo sudanese continua a lanciare attacchi aerei sui civili del Darfur.

08/10/2007 Si è celebrata ieri, 9 agosto, la "Giornata internazionale dei popoli autoctoni", istituita nel 1994 dall’Assemblea generale dell’Onu. "I 370 milioni di persone appartenenti ai popoli indigeni continuano ad essere vittima di discriminazioni, povertà e conflitti" - ha detto il Segretario generale dell'Onu, Ban Ki-Moon. Oltre alle tradizionali minacce legate alle risorse delle loro terre, oggi i popoli indigeni sono particolarmente esposti al surriscaldamento planetario, dovuto alle attività umane nei paesi più industrializzati e alle emissioni di gas serra. L'Associazione per i Popoli Minacciati ha lanciato un allarme sulle conseguenze della "scoperta" del biodiesel da parte dell'Europa: solo in Malaysia e Indonesia 47 milioni di persone appartenenti a diverse popolazioni native sono vittime dirette dei progetti governativi di aumentare l'estensione delle piantagioni di palma da olio, destinate alla produzione del cosiddetto biodiesel.

08/06/2007 Human rights organisation Amnesty International will observe, 9 August 2007 as an International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples and support their demands for the right to full implementation of The Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006. This act will allow the tribals to lead a life free from threat of evictions and displacement.
